I attended the “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk late last month, right? And I kid you not, I saw a T-Shirt that said “SAVE SECOND BASE.”

I cannot stand that slogan, or “Save the boobies” or any of the other “cute” slogans that make a deathly illness all about saving breasts. The implication is that breast cancer patients, like all women, exist for the pleasure of others- and that our lives only matter if we’re sexually appealing. “Save second base” is about saving breasts so that other people can feel them, not about saving someone’s life so they can go on living it.
